Idea for Celebration

I was really sick yesterday and the night before with a 102 degree fever and weird muscle aches and dizziness. The good news is that I stayed home from work and Aaron stayed with me, so we talked about the ceremony options more. We are thinking that the Secret Garden at ASU will be best. We went here a lot when we were friends in Architecture 5 years ago. Once, we walked to the garden after a party and layed down in the grass below one of the trees and were so comfortable (and drunk and happy) that we stayed there until the sun came up. It was the most beautiful thing I think I've ever watched because our eyes were looking up nearly the entire time. And, of course, we were secretly in love with eachother so that also made it magical. I read online last night that the space can be reserved for weddings. Also, it has a fireplace, which will make the space even more fanciful and intimate. We'll most likely just have the celebration (other words: reception) here, and the vows at the courthouse. There's something old timey and cute about the courthouse. We've decided that we're old people at heart because we want to get married in the courthouse, have an evening garden party, and then take the train to the Grand Canyon for a two day honeymoon in a cabin. That's all old fashioned isn't it? Sounds perfect. December 12 in the evening is what we are thinking at the moment. Below are images I captured from a 360 degree video of the Secret Garden.

it will be cold. there's a fireplace outside and i will rent outdoor heaters and / or ask dad if we can also use his two heaters.

Love it.
Are you gonna have lights in the trees? That would be fun - and christmasy. I love the fireplace, too.
Will ASU also cater the wedding?

I don't think they'll cater it but I found a cool place in Tempe that uses seasonal, organic, free range food for catering. I was thinking that we could do the heavy hors d'oeuvres service and I'll bring in a cocktail bar with wine, beer, and campari and orange juice (if i can get an alcohol permit for the space). Buffet will be super expensive and I can't afford serving 50+ people at $50 a person... or even $30 a person, with service charges on top of that. It's a lot to think about. How to make it affordable but really nice. So, yeah an hors d'oeuvre buffet plus dessert and drinks, and then I'll bring in large pillows and rugs to put around the fire, and then we'll rent chairs and I'll bring nice blankets, and we'll have music and string some lights and large candles scattered. It will take some thought but I think it will all turn out nicely. Please let me know of any thoughts you have that will make the space comfortable and romantic but will be cheap to include! :) My friend Sou was sweet to offer to make the invitations. So, she and I will team to make those and get them sent in the fall. I'm excited b/c she is very creative and crafty.

Oh, and Dora thought of the pillows and rugs next to the fire! It's a great idea and I'll be looking for cheap, large pillows. So, if any of you see a 50% off coupon for Pier One or World Market or some such place, let me know!! :)

damnit! no alcohol can be served here. so, i am scheming. rum balls, thank you bags filled with miniature liquor bottles, and spiked coffee and lemonade.
they also can not open the building so i will rent a luxury portable bathroom and place it outside of the garden. i'm not sure the cost of these but will call this week. the garden space is free, luckily, with just a $50 processing fee for the reservation application. so, paying for a bathroom should be okay.

Okay, so Lilly and I have been brainstorming like a mad house and I found lots of great alcoholic coffee recipes, and Lilly and I are going to buy foam and make pillow cases together.
I think spiking coffee is the best bet here.
Also, Aaron's sister Jen found a dj (a friend of her husband) who can probably do the music for $200. Also, Laine is taking the pictures! He's an awesome photographer so things are looking good so far.
I just need to get a quote on food and a luxury porable bathroom. Which, by the way, is the coolest business idea.
